1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us:

• Account Information: Your email address when you sign in via magic link, or the profile details shared by your chosen sign-in provider (Google, Apple, or Discord) when you use social sign-in. If you use Apple’s Hide My Email, we receive only the relay address. We do not ask for or store passwords.
• Books and Content: The EPUB and PDF files you upload (or import from Google Drive or Dropbox), your reading progress, highlights, and the AI-generated illustrations, character notes, and recaps tied to them.
• Payment Information: Billing details processed securely through Stripe (we don't store credit card numbers).
• Delivery Settings: If you use Send to Kindle, the Kindle email address you provide and a record of deliveries, so we can email your books to your device.
• Usage Information: How you interact with our service, collected through our analytics tooling to improve your experience.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve our services
• Send you technical notices and support messages
• Respond to your comments and questions
• Protect against fraudulent or illegal activity

3. How We Store and Protect Your Data

Your data security is our priority:

• Your books, highlights, and AI-generated content are private by default and only accessible by you
• We use Cloudflare's secure infrastructure for data storage
• All data is encrypted in transit and at rest using industry-standard encryption
• We regularly review and update our security practices

4. Data Processing for AI Features

Storieta sends excerpts of the book you're reading to AI providers in order to generate the following features:

• Inline scene illustrations and character portraits via image-generation providers
• Character extraction and consistency tracking via large-language-model providers
• Spoiler-aware chapter recaps and scene explainers via large-language-model providers

Excerpts are sent only when you trigger a feature (or, for Comic Mode, when you opt in to auto-generation for a book). We do not send your books to AI providers for training and we do not retain copies on their side beyond what's required to return a result.

5. Third-Party Services

We work with trusted partners to provide our service:

• Cloudflare: For secure database, storage, authentication, and hosting infrastructure
• Stripe: For payment processing (PCI-compliant)
• Google: For optional Sign in with Google and the optional "Import from Google Drive" feature (see Section 6)
• Apple, Discord & Dropbox: For optional Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Discord, and the optional Dropbox import feature
• AI providers: For image generation, character extraction, and recap generation
• Email delivery providers: For transactional emails such as magic sign-in links, and for Send to Kindle deliveries (which are handled by Amazon once they reach your Kindle address)
• Analytics and measurement providers: To understand how the product is used and, for visitors who arrive through one of our ads, to measure whether the ad led to a signup or purchase

These partners are carefully selected and bound by strict data protection agreements.

6. Google User Data and Limited Use

When you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture, and use them only to create and secure your Storieta account and to recognize you when you return.

Storieta also offers an optional "Import from Google Drive" feature. If you use it, Storieta requests the Google Drive "drive.file" permission and opens Google's own file picker so you can select the specific EPUB or PDF books you want to import. With this permission, Storieta can access only the individual files you pick in that picker. It cannot see, browse, or open any other file in your Google Drive. Each file you select is downloaded once and added to your private library. Storieta does not modify or delete anything in your Drive, and never requests access to your Gmail, contacts, or calendar.

Storieta's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not sell Google user data, do not use it for advertising, and do not use it to train AI models.

7. Your Rights and Choices

You have control over your data:

• Export: Download your books, including your generated illustrations, as EPUB files
• Delete: Delete your account and all associated data
• Opt-out: Disable AI features if you prefer not to use them
• Update: Correct any inaccurate information

8. Cookies and Local Storage

We keep tracking technologies to a minimum:

• Essential cookies for authentication and security
• Local storage for theme preferences and app state
• First-party analytics to understand how the product is used
• If you arrive through one of our ads, we set a short-lived attribution cookie and share conversion events (such as signing up) with the advertising platform the ad ran on, so we can measure whether our ads work. Visitors who don't come from an ad are never sent to advertising platforms.

9. Data Retention

We retain your data only as long as necessary:

• Active account data is retained while your account is active
• Deleted books and visualizations are permanently removed from our systems
• After account deletion, all your data is permanently removed

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by email or through our platform. Your continued use of Storieta after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
